Boardroom Meetings And Big Shot Put Downs; Melbourne Does Business And Break-Ups
Day 144 of The Andie Chronicles
I felt GG staring at me again, this time from across the boardroom table.
And she wasn’t sizing me up in the same way as she did with my coffee in hand. She was grinning, nodding, pleased I had listened to her warning and ditched the denim.
In reality, I had only bought the clothes to stop my meddling, controlling lid-like ex from taking me shopping for two hours.
And she wouldn’t be so pleased if she found out who had ended up spoiling me on this trip; her boyfriend, Taylor.
We vowed not to tell anyone who had paid for my threads, in case it raised eyebrows.
I wasn’t having it off with Taylor, not even a little bit. But our friendship wasn’t something people in our life would condone. We didn’t need to tell anyone to know that this revelation would cause insurmountable chaos in our lives.
Douglas must have noticed my wardrobe change too, because he was smiling ear to ear. I had worn this beautiful boucle blazer with a low v-neck cami underneath. It was my style, but it was also designer and chic and sexy, all rolled into one.
Admittedly, I hadn’t looked this good in a while. I felt incredible in everything Taylor bought me, and having my ex drooling over me didn’t hurt.
I didn’t think a woman using her sexuality like this should get you anywhere in life. Surely the days of needing to do this were long gone. But it seems to make people sit up and take notice. So that was something.
I had to become better at playing the game, I recited to myself, should I hope to win it shortly.
Sophia ended the meeting by talking about a new potential warehouse. Being chief buyer, she was working around the clock to find somewhere to hold the sixteen thousand pieces we needed for launch, not to mention refill space and more lines soon to come.
I had never seen my friend look this defeated when it came to talking about Highway. We used to love nutting out potential logistical problems. Now, it seemed like the last thing she wanted to talk about.
“I can find two warehouses, but not one space to combine everything. They’re actually on the same street. But Douglas, you said you wanted them all together, is that right?”
He nodded. What did he know about fashion logistics? He was an investor, a man who never left the office. He couldn’t tell you how his Hugo Boss underwear went from ordering to in his hand. He knew nothing.
“Can I offer a solution?” I caught myself saying.
“Anything,” begged Sophia.
“Well if these two warehouses are so close, why do you put a certain size range in one warehouse, and the size range in another? At least it’s a clear separation.”
Douglas scoffed, emphatically allowing no one else to refute or inject their input into the conversation.
“Stupid idea. You can’t split across two warehouses. No, it wouldn’t work.”
I looked at Sophia. She screwed up her lips, her frustration mounting. She liked my idea, but now she was back to the drawing board.
Sorry, Soph, I thought. I tried.
