When Your Man Thinks It's Time To Go Home, He's Covering An Affair, Right?
Day 213 of The Andie Chronicles
“What’s on tonight?” probed GG as we were riding down in the lift towards the lobby. It had been a long day, copious amounts of meetings and equal parts of stress about the impending launch of Highway.
GG wasn’t helping the stress.
She had been in and out of my office what felt like every twenty minutes, fretting, wondering how she would inform Taylor of the chaos unfolding using his money.
I understood her rationale for her worry. She didn’t want to disappoint him but knew we couldn’t meet the deadline.
I kept telling her to be honest with him, tell him what was going on inside the Gallo offices at 101 Collins Street, but she claimed she couldn’t.
This was business, and she had to be ‘professional’—no office pillow talk.
I wondered if this applied when my friends were unceremoniously dumping me from my business. How did they not discuss this outside of working hours? To have been a fly on the wall.
“I’m meeting Cooper for dinner. And then I think we might go back to his place and try and get some sleep. What about you?” I asked GG.
“I’m gonna go home to Lovelock Drive and check on everything.”
GG collapsed against the back wall of the lift, staring up at the roof like it had all the answers.
“Taylor thinks I should be more active in ensuring my home doesn’t fall apart at the seams.” She air-quoted the word active. “I had to turn the electricity back on to stay there. ”
“You don’t seem that thrilled about going home?” I asked her, doing my best to pretend I knew things I didn’t.
“I like staying at Taylor’s. And I like being near him. And he won’t stay with me at the house. I’m starting to think that he’s seeing someone else.”
“Don’t jump to that conclusion.” As far as I knew, the only ‘other woman’ was the plans he made about me in his head. And not in reality. “I’m sure everything is fine. If he is anything like his brother, he needs space we can’t begin to understand.”
I could feel GG about to refute my assessments of her boyfriend when the lift doors opened.
There, a few steps away, was Cooper, standing by the front entrance out of the rain and waiting for me with an umbrella. He looked so dapper in his button-down shirt covered by a sweater. His chinos were dark green, and his suede boots looked perfect against the rest of the ensemble.
He appeared distinguished, elegant, stately, like he belonged in this world, which I knew he did.
GG caught her breath as she spotted him. “That’s Cooper, she noted, “I should say hi to him, shouldn’t I?”
“Yes, I think you should. But you don’t have to if you don’t want to.”
“No, no, I will; I will do it for you.”
I was about to tell her not to bother when she charged toward Cooper. She extended her hand to his, Cooper returning his hand with raised eyebrows before watching GG shake with determined vigour.
“It’s nice to see you again. Well, have a lovely evening, you two. Bye-bye.”
“What’s with her?” Cooper inquired after kissing me on the cheek.
“I’m not 100% sure, but I know that she’s not keen on you. And she’s worried more about her boyfriend than what’s happening right before her.”
