Waking up next to Cooper was the best thing about the work days. The mornings were droll and quiet, and I hated them, knowing I'd be away from working on my business and the man I loved.
Yet, he made everything worthwhile when he held me and told me how much I meant to him.
This morning was no different. He was dressed in his gym gear, putting on one of his Cooper Crusher hoodies over his singlet and shorts when I felt ready to leave his bed.
Despite being born and raised in Melbourne, he continued to dress as he lived in Queensland. At least Melbourne was getting a little bit warmer. Winter was gone, but the cold hadn’t entirely left us yet.
“What have you got on today?” I asked him, searching the floor for my pyjamas he unceremoniously stripped from my body during the night. He usually did his training before doing social media and other meetings on Skype.
“Training, and then I'm taking a session with some of the recruits. Chris from Queensland will be coming down next week, so I want to be prepared, and I know the guys will have to try out in front of him.”
I watched Cooper straighten his clothes, meticulously placing the Crusher motif in the centre of his oversized chest.
“He is a taskmaster, and as much as he is judging them, he's also judging me. So I gotta get it right.” It was the closest thing to nerves I had seen from Cooper.
“Sounds like a big day. Do you want me to come round later, or should I see you at the weekend?” There was no way I wanted to get in the way of his dealings with Chris or distract him from potential future opportunities.
He smiled at me and shook his head vigorously. “Oh hell no, you are coming around tonight, tomorrow night, and every night. I need some Andie time whenever I can get it.”
“How about dinner on Friday night? Would you like to try somewhere near here?”
I hadn’t been anywhere in Toorak for dinner in a long time. There hadn't been many great restaurants in the area until recently. And I had always been in Camberwell or the city or in South Yarra, visiting Douglas or Taylor. It would be nice for a change of pace, a change of scenery, and staring at my man all night over a bowl of good food.
I began to form a rejection; I felt myself denying I could spend Friday night with him. I thought about Angela's obligatory email coming around tomorrow morning, reminding everybody in the office about end-of-week drinks. The whole office was obliged to be there. Though it wasn't mandatory if you weren't there, everybody talked about your absence on Monday morning.
But I hated the last time I went. All I did was fight off advances from random men and my ex-boyfriend. Why would I want to do that again? Why couldn't I put my partner first right now?
I abandoned looking for my clothes, slinking my naked body up next to Cooper, my hands fixed on his bulging manhood. “I would love that. You pick the place?”
“I have the perfect little place in mind. And if you love it, we can take your friends there too. I think they will love it.”
How he put my friends into his thoughts made me smile big. It was more than what my friends could do a lot of the time. Weirdly, they didn't know how lucky they were to have him in my life.
“I will see you tonight, my love.”
